The Ugly Duckling (English Text)
The story begins on a warm summer day on a quiet farm. A Mother Duck was sitting patiently on her nest, waiting for her eggs to hatch. Finally, the little ones started poking their heads out, one by one. "Peep, peep!" went the small, yellow ducklings. They were all beautiful.
But one egg was much larger than the rest. It took a long time to hatch. When it finally cracked open, the creature that emerged was large, grey, and very awkward. The Mother Duck looked at him carefully and sighed. "He doesn't look like any of my children," she thought, "but he is still my baby."
As the days passed, everyone on the farm—the other ducklings, the hens, and the tomcat—teased the large grey bird. They called him **"The Ugly Duckling."** He was pushed, bitten, and mocked by everyone. He felt terribly sad and alone.
One day, the Ugly Duckling could not bear the cruelty anymore. He ran away from the farm to the wild marsh. He spent the autumn and the long, cold winter hiding in the tall reeds, feeling lonely and afraid. He faced hunger, frost, and danger every day.
When spring finally returned, the duckling was much bigger. He flew to a large lake. There, he saw a magnificent sight: a group of beautiful, graceful white birds with long, curved necks were swimming on the calm water. They were swans.
The Ugly Duckling, feeling unworthy, lowered his head, ready to be chased away and teased one last time. But as he looked down at the water, he saw his own reflection. He was no longer a dull, grey bird! He was a beautiful, magnificent white swan!
The swans swam towards him and welcomed him warmly into their group. The bird realized he was never an ugly duckling; he was simply a cygnet, a swan waiting to grow into his true self. He had finally found his family and lived happily ever after.
